Life Lately & Woolzies Winner

Posted on by Susan Posted in Giveaway | Comments Off

Hey friends,

How is your summer so far? We are (still) getting used to life in Southern California. The San Diego Zoo is amazing and we love being beach bums.

We still have lots to do, regarding our move here, including a ton of paperwork, choosing insurance, etc. Hopefully we will also have a new car soon, so I can stop breaking my back putting my squirmy toddler in the back seat of our Mazda 3. It’s tiny, don’t get one if you are going to put a car seat in the back. ;)

Good thing it’s only a rental car and it’s entirely paid for, as a part of our transfer.

We’re trying to keep busy during weekdays and go exploring on the weekends as a family. I’m starting to really like Encinitas. Definitely much more walkable than the suburbia/strip mall combo we currently call our home. Lots of yogis there too. :)

There’s really not too much going on otherwise, so I will move right on to the fun part.

A big Thank You to all of you who entered my Woolzies giveaway

The lucky winner is:

Congrats, Gillian Morgan, #5!

I’ve emailed you! Please send me your contact info so I can forward it to Soft by Nature (if I don’t hear back within 48 hours, I will choose another winner). They will send the Woolzies directly to you! I hope you’ll like them!

Happy Tuesday!

Eco-Friendly Home: Woolzies Dryer Balls Review & Giveaway

Posted on by Susan Posted in Giveaway, Green Living | 47 Comments

It’s no secret that I’ve been trying to live my live a little greener one step at a time. I’m not an activist, but I do want to raise people’s awareness on the importance of being kind to Mother Earth. As a scuba diver (even though it’s been a while) I’m especially fond of the ocean and it’s role in our planet’s health.

In addition to my love for the Seven Seas  (and nature in general), I grew up in Germany, where recycling is part of your daily life. You don’t throw plastics in the garbage. No, no, no!!! Food scraps don’t belong in there either. These go into a separate compost bin, regardless whether you live in a single-family house or apartment building. That’s just how it is. So, yes, I’m a recycling advocate, although this seems like an impossible task in the States. I’m shocked at what I see in our apartment complex’s garbage bins.

Anyway, most of you know, we’ve just recently moved into our current rental apartment, and luckily it came with a washer and dryer. Unluckily both of them are antiques. :(

I’m actually quite shocked, how a country this technologically advanced is still using these wasteful (and not to mention LOUD) top loading washing machines. Have you seen how much water they use? I don’t think you have been able to even buy a toploader in Germany in the past 20 years.

In addition to our ancient washer, we’ve also been dealing with our horrible, horrible dryer. It can take up to 4 drying cycles for a normal-sized load of laundry to dry. 4 cycles!!! Who’s got time for that? Not this mama, who has a lot of messy toddler laundry (including cloth diapers) to wash. Actually, unless you hang your clothes to dry, no one should be spending this much time on waiting for the dryer to finish.

Soft by Nature couldn’t have contacted me at a better time to review their Woolzies dryer balls!

What are Woolzies?

Woolzies are natural dryer balls, made from 100% New Zealand wool. They are a hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and healthy alternative to chemical-laden laundry softener liquids or dryer sheets.

How do you use them?

Toss in the dryer, together with your laundry and turn your dryer on!

I used them for a over week so far with our clothes, towels, and linens. Haven’t tried it with the cloth diapers yet, but I am happy to tell you that drying time for a load of clothes is cut down by quite a bit. This is because the balls create space between clothes, so that the heat spreads out better. Not only is less drying time good for my time bank, but also for our energy bill and Mother Earth. In addition to the cut in drying time, our laundry also comes out super soft and fluffy!

I’m really quite happy I got the chance to try these dryer balls out and I would highly recommend them to anyone, who is trying to eliminate toxins and chemicals from their daily life.

How about trying them out yourself?

Soft by Nature is giving away 1 set of 6 balls to a lucky reader!
